This session will feature John Austin, the Senior Director at NC IDEA. Along with a panel of industry experts.
John founded Groundwork Labs (now NC IDEA) in 2012 and continues to work directly with founders who are in the NC IDEA LABS program or who have won one of the SEED or MICRO grants. He also works with organizations across the state through the NC IDEA ECOSYSTEM and the Ice House Entrepreneurship Programs.
John will start the session by sharing best practices on starting your business and raising money. Then hear from a panel of subject matter experts on key steps to funding your endeavor.
Greg Brown, Charlotte Angel Fund
Greg Brown is President and Owner of Cardinal Finance which provides fractional CFO and other financial advisory services to small and mid-sized businesses. He is also the Administrator of Charlotte Angel Fund, one of the most active angel investor funds in North Carolina. Greg has served as the Chief Financial Officer of multiple venture capital backed private and early stage public companies, as well as having ten years of experience in the venture capital industry. His career has been devoted to serving entrepreneurs and the companies that they create as a trusted business partner and investor.
Malay Shah is a seasoned investor with specific expertise in alternative assets, including early-stage ventures, private companies and real estate. Malay co-leads VentureSouth Piedmont, part of the VentureSouth network of over 350 angel investors spanning the Carolinas. He has raised and managed private equity funds investing in startup companies, residential real estate and commercial real estate. Malay’s experience includes roles in management consulting, project management, product marketing, policy development and corporate finance. He holds a BSE in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering and MBA from Duke University.
