Retail Lab Graduate to Open Its First Brick-and-Mortar Location

Rockers Rejoice! Local Guitar Shop Opens in Downtown Kannapolis!

The Cabarrus Center is thrilled to announce the grand opening of J. King Guitar at 201 Oak Avenue in downtown Kannapolis on Saturday, September 3 from 11:00am to 6:00pm!

J. King Guitar founder, Jack King, graduated from the Cabarrus Center’s Retail Lab Boot Camp earlier this year. This program provides early stage and pre-launch retailers in Cabarrus and Rowan counties with six weeks of immersive, application-based training focusing on business basics, strategy, branding and marketing, e-commerce, point-of-sale and inventory, and real estate/licensing. Upon graduating from the Retail Lab Boot Camp, J. King Guitar participated in the Cabarrus Center’s co-op storefront, the Retail Lab Pop Up Store, for a short time before taking this leap to establish their own brick-and-mortar location.

“As a local, I’ve seen how far downtown Kannapolis has come in the past few years, so I’m thrilled to be a part of it. I’ve always wanted a neighborhood shop where fellow guitarists can explore gear they don’t see everyday, and have a go-to place they can trust their instruments with,” said Jack.

Started as a passion project by Jack in 2019, J. King Guitar sells new, used and vintage guitars and gear along with repair services. They strive to be a welcoming haven for guitar enthusiasts, offering an eclectic curation of accessories and gear, along with trusted repair expertise.

Located in the same historic building as the revitalized and soon-to-open Swanee Theater, J. King Guitar will give patrons of downtown Kannapolis a wide-range mix of guitars, gear and repairs, all with a welcoming neighborhood feel.
